August 23-26, 2015: Greece, Part 3 – Lounging Around Chalkidiki

Said goodbye to Steve in Santorini, for good this time (we’ll miss you, dear friend), and flew into Thessaloniki, picked up a car, and drove out to the fantastic city of Afytos/Afitos on the Kassandra finger of Chalkidiki/Halkidiki (see map below). Thank you, Sarit, for recommending we come here. These were probably the most beautiful beaches, softest sands and bluest/clearest waters either of us had ever seen (even more beautiful than the Caribbean!) and we had an incredible, relaxing time. And, it was SUPER cheap to boot!! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing, beautiful and affordable vacation.

For starters, let me just explain to you where and what this magical place is. In northeastern Greece, just east of Thessaloniki, there is a large body of land with three peninsulas (”fingers”) that jut out into the Aegean Sea that make up Chalkidiki:

We found this AMAZING restaurant in Afytos called Saboro. We ate there each night. Some of most amazing food we’ve had on this trip (on par with the Cuban restaurant in The Keys, if you remember that post). Naturally, we became besties with the staff:
